Transit Strike of 2005 - Day 2

Back at work today.  It only took me an hour and a half instead of yesterday's 3.5 hours to get to work.  So it's getting better.

But for better strike coverage, go to GOP and the City.

My favorite is the reference to Penn Station and the Shaun of the Dead.

Transit Strike of 2005

What do I think of the ILLEGAL transit strike?  I think the TWU (Transit Workers Union) should be taken down.  They are taking New York City hostage for what?  Retirement with a pension at age 55, 8% wage increases every year, and a quota on disciplinary actions.  Who in the private sector has these benefits?  And who gets to retire at 55 anymore?  The TWU is selfish and greedy for wanting these benefits only for driving buses and subways.

In my opinion, the MTA should give their employees 24 hours to report to work and fire those that fail to report to work.

As for me, it's almost 6:30 pm and I'm still at work.  But I'll be leaving tonight at 8 pm so I can wait 3 hours in line to get home.

Thank you TWU.

Shut up and drive!

This posted on GOP and the City:

Estimated daily cost of a strike to the city - $400,000,000

Average Salary for a Subway/Bus operator - $62,000

Starting Salary for a NYPD Police officer - $25,100

Trying to get support from a public that makes less money (on average), will get less salary increases (3.5% versus the TWU's request for 8%), and will have to work over a decade longer (TWU retires at 55)....while making them walk to work in 25 degree weather - Priceless

Thanksgiving History

"We often forget the Source from which the blessings of fruitful years and healthful skies come. . . . No human wisdom hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God. . . . I therefore invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States . . . to observe the last Thursday of November as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens."  - Abraham Lincoln proclaiming Thanksgiving as a National Holiday, 1863.

On this Thanksgiving day, I thank God for the insane year that was 2005.  And what happened to me this year:  I finally finished 20 years of schooling, I got married, I graduated, I moved, I took the NY bar exam, my maternal grandfather passed away, I got a new job (twice), I joined a new small group at my church and I passed the bar exam.  And there's still a little more than a month left.  As you can see, God has been faithful to me despite my lack of faith at times.

So as I leave for Vermont to spend my first Thanksgiving with my inlaws and to snowboard in freshly laid powder, I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.
